KARATE FOR THE ELDERLY

Martial arts have been around for generations. Many people practice the sport for many different reasons. Some people do it for self-defense, others do it so that they can stay in shape. The people that can benefit most from the martial arts are the elderly. It can be a vital thing for them to learn because of their age. Here, I want to talk about some benefits for senior citizens taking up martial arts or specifically, karate.
Great Exercise

One of the benefits of the elderly taking up martial arts is that martial arts is great exercise. As you get older, your body needs to get more and more exercise - martial arts is perfect for that.  Martial arts affects all of the body parts. The legs, arms, thighs, stomach and chest all benefit when you are practicing karate. Martial arts can be great aerobic exercise. Depending on the pace and intensity of your kicks and punches, it is very easy to get your heart rate up, which is what you should aim for in every session.

The elderly are very prone to diseases such as heart disease, stroke and cancer. Getting oxygen to the body can help prevent this, and martial arts can be a great tool that can help.
